I thought long and hard about someplace that I wouldn't talk about. The Painted Desert in Arizona comes to mind. After seeing the original red rocks, it's boring. Especially with kids younger than 13. There are not many places to stop for breaks or fun stuff to do.

Of course. But only the off-the-beaten-path places that I like, though I may talk about it with friends. But definitely not travel influencers.

Twenty-five years ago I would never have mentioned Anguilla. Now, there’s been too many mentions and the little slice of Paradise has been “discovered.” Up went the access, up went the prices and out went the backwater charm.

I have a new favorite now … but I won’t mention it. 😎😉

Hi, guys! So good to have you back! As always, I really enjoyed your podcast!

Melbourne. …And you’re going there for coffee! 😊 And, the Aussies call it “Melbun”. You’ll notice that pronunciation the longer you’re there!

One of my good Aussie friends said this to me and I’ll never forget it… but you have to hear it with a thick Aussie accent in your mind, “Never pet a wombat… he’ll wee on yeh.”

Keen observations on grocery stores. I remember the ice cream section was composed of maybe one or two doors, not an entire aisle. And when I heard they had a “Kohls” (one of my go-to stores here), it was a “Coles” grocery store. Most of my menus were predicted by the price of food in the store. The prices even 5 years ago were exorbitant. One Thanksgiving over there I tried to order a 22-pound turkey and the price was $110. We opted for another menu!

Safe Travels. Standing by for more great stories!

In all my travels, there are a few places to which I I would not return. Even those added something to my life, if nothing else, stories told with a shrug and a head shaking "no."

Each time I've been to beautiful Tassie, people in the States think I've been to Africa. It's Tasmania, not Tanzania!

A place we never discuss: My husband and I spent a month in Panama. Panama City was filled with high rise buildings that appeared to be nearly empty. We did not get a good feeling about the country at all, including a week on Contradina Island. The island was awful. Very polluted and there is no sewer or sewage treatment facility on the island. The pipes drain directly into the ocean and can be seen on the filthy beaches.

Enjoyed hearing your comments about Tasmania. Just before Covid hit we spent 2 days in Hobart and decided that if we ever emigrated to another country we would end up there. Not realistic but we remember the place with an affection that we didn't feel for Melbourne. Good to hear you back podcasting (is that even a verb?).

Technically, my first (of four) trips to Australia was to Macquarie Island, part of Tasmania, on the way to the Ross Sea Ice Shelf of Antarctica. What an experience. We got to see a rookery of thousands of Southern Royal Penguins. We also walked among King Penguins, Rockhopper Penguins, Gentoo Penguins, elephant seals, Hooker's Sea Lions and loads of birds. The researchers that spend a one-year term there gave us a tour of the now defunct whaling facility before sitting with us for tea and scones. I did get to spend a week and a half in "mainland" Tasmania on a subsequent trip, including a couple of days on Bruni Island, where we saw Little Penguins. I would revisit Tasmania in a heartbeat. As to your question about visiting a place one wouldn't want to talk about. I can't think of any, as there have always been redeeming qualities. However, most of most of my trips are nature trips.
