Tasmania Confidential: Meeting the devil in Australia
In this episode: Rare marsupials, remote mountain ranges and more adventures on the Apple Isle. Recorded 3/25 in Melbourne, Australia
We’re back!
This week’s podcast is about Tasmania, a remote island off the southern coast of Australia.
Before we take you there, here’s this week’s question: Have you ever visited a destination that you don’t want to talk about? And if so, why? (We did, which is why you haven’t heard from us in a while.)
Here are a few photos from this week:
It’s a baby Tasmanian devil. They’re cute and curious, but they also love to fight with each other (that’s why they call them devils). Tassie devils are rare. We were lucky enough to see this one in a devil preserve.
Tasmanians have a quirky sense of humor. We met a man in Sheffield who introduced us to his “poodle.”
Wait, that’s not a poodle! Well, he had us going for a minute.
The island is covered in temperate rainforests filled with towering pines and giant ferns. I could spend weeks exploring Tasmania’s beautiful trails.
Don’t forget this week’s question: Have you ever visited a destination that you don’t want to talk about? I’d love to hear your story.
Tasmania Confidential: Meeting the devil in Australia
I thought long and hard about someplace that I wouldn't talk about. The Painted Desert in Arizona comes to mind. After seeing the original red rocks, it's boring. Especially with kids younger than 13. There are not many places to stop for breaks or fun stuff to do.
Of course. But only the off-the-beaten-path places that I like, though I may talk about it with friends. But definitely not travel influencers.
Twenty-five years ago I would never have mentioned Anguilla. Now, there’s been too many mentions and the little slice of Paradise has been “discovered.” Up went the access, up went the prices and out went the backwater charm.
I have a new favorite now … but I won’t mention it. 😎😉
