Booking.com promised reimbursement, then gave me $12,107.00 in "travel credits".
A few weeks before San Diego Comic-Con, Booking.com canceled the reservation for lodging that I had made more than a year out. They were helpful and assured me in writing that if the original accommodation became unavailable, I could book a suitable alternative and they would “cover the price difference.” They explained the requirements, and I made sure to book an alternative property through the site that matched those specifications.
Concerned about the substantial expense during San Diego Comic-Con, I contacted Booking.com multiple times, making sure that the alternative property would qualify. Especially since properties this close to comic con were dramatically more expensive (an $12,107 specifically).
Booking.com confirmed they could “cover any price difference” and even specifically mentioned that they would process my “reimbursement” and instructed me to obtain a final, zero-balance hotel invoice after the stay to demonstrate full payment of. None of these emails stated that this repayment would be in the form of Booking.com travel credits.
Their own representative over the phone assured me that I would receive the repayment in direct deposit, cash payment. Yet once all was said and done, I was given repayment in the form of Booking.com credits. The customer service team maintains that there is nothing they can do to process the payment, despite confirming via email and phone that they could reimburse me.
I am seeking monetary reimbursement of the accommodation price difference that Booking.com repeatedly promised to cover, rather than travel credits. Can you help me identify and contact the appropriate executive or escalation team? I keep getting trapped within the Booking.com customer service loop, and I realize that this is an issue beyond the authority of most customer service representatives. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
