Why aren’t owners who post in the rental platforms notifying potential buyers that if they sell their sale is subject to the rentals?

excellent suggestion: TALK to the owner. Property management companies, large organizations know how to get around cancellations/reviews, etc. Properties managed by an owner, including on VRBO and Airbnb, small and super guest service oriented (like my WhistlerSlopeside) will go to great length to offer the best service possible. T make certain to get a great review and to make certain the guests will come back. If we even planned on selling, we would disclose and would sell with a long transfer date so as to honor the rentals already booked.

A year ago, I booked a non-refundable Airbnb rental house in San Antonio for this month’s solar eclipse.

The price was reasonable: the owner likely did not know the importance of those dates. She canceled, a few weeks later, and the only notification I got was a message on the Airbnb app. Glad i saw it.

This was still a year out, so I quickly rented a second house. Same thing happened. I’d been in touch with that owner with questions, but he did not hive me the courtesy of a heads up before canceling - again, likely because he could re-list at a higher price, due to the eclipse.

After that experience, I booked hotels for our time in Texas - but I was traveling with a group, so it wasn’t ideal. I made sure I could cancel these if something else came up.

A few weeks prior to the eclipse, I canceled those hotel rooms and booked an expensive Airbnb in Austin for the eclipse dates - which cost twice as much as our original, larger Airbnbs.

I wish I’d known that Airbnb might have helped me with a replacement rental, after the two cancelations.

Wouldn't this be considered fraud as they have sold your stay to you only to not have the property available as they contractually agreed to? Somewhat similar to airlines selling you a seat then overbooking it (selling it to a 2nd customer) then you get to the airport and find you have been bumped??

This subscription is as inane as it gets. Only personal options and then you ask for out option. Not at all what I hoped for.

Terrible reporting. I feel like I just subsidized you travel budget in exchange for inarticulate observations.

Horrible waste of money.
