Sweden Confidential: What we did in Stockholm this summer

Our adventures also took us near the Arctic Circle to see wood high-rises and a treehouse hotel (recorded 8/16/24 in Stockholm)

Hello from Stockholm!

It’s great to be back in Minnesota — I mean, uh, Sweden — and we’ve covered a lot of ground in the last two weeks. We’ll have all the details in this week’s podcast.

Before we get to the pictures, here’s this week’s question: Tell us about your most recent visit to a “hidden gem” — a place that no one knows about but where you had a great experience. We’ll read your comments in our next episode.

Stockholm is a series of connected islands with a famous maritime culture. Of course, Aren had to do his best “I’m on Instagram” pose for this one. (He’s normally not this animated.)

Here’s the treehouse hotel at Granö Beckasin that we mentioned in the podcast. The views are great, but there are a lot of birds. This is their territory.

The concert venue at the Wood Hotel in Skellefteå. One of the challenges of building a concert hall was the acoustics. They solved the problem by installing a series of speakers and wood paneling that absorbs the sound.

We had a chance to fly over Skellefteå to get an aerial view of the city with the Green Flight Academy, which trains pilots to fly electric planes. Sweden in the summer is beautiful.

Here’s the bread Aren was talking about in the podcast. It’s from a bakery called Granö Gårdsbageri, which is out in the middle of nowhere but well worth the visit.

Thank you for following our adventures and listening to our podcast. And please don’t forget to tell us about your favorite hidden gem destination this week.
