I prefer an aisle seat. If I cannot reserve one for free, then I reluctantly buy one. Hate that fee!!

I have to dispute "if you have a ticket, you have a seat". That is not always the case because airlines oversell as we all know. I did not have an assigned seat and was told at check in that the flight was oversold so unless someone voluntarily gave theirs up for a later flight I was out of luck.

No one did, no surprise as it was at a remote airport with no other flights that day and it was spring break. They did immediately fork over a $1200 check as required by law. But I missed getting back to work on time the next day so was docked for that. Plus I had to find a place to stay for the night.

In the long run I made out slightly ahead monetarily but the hassle was not worth it. So in this instance, paying for the seat would have been the better idea.
