Sonder, the one-time darling of the short-term rental market, this week dissolved its operations, abruptly canceling thousands of upcoming stays and leaving some travelers stranded.

The sudden implosion has created a crisis for guests who now face last-minute rebooking costs, often at two or three times their original price, in high-priced markets.
