Should car rental companies ban electric vehicles?

One CEO is already out — and a U.S. senator wants to force car rental companies to stop pushing electric vehicles

If you want to rent an electric vehicle this summer, you might be out of luck.

Maybe you saw the news that Stephen Scherr lost his job this week as the CEO of Hertz after the car rental company reversed course and sold most of its EVs. In the latest quarter, Hertz took a $245 million hit to its earnings because of its EV missteps.

Earlier this month, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) also introduced a bill that would require rental car companies to let customers terminate a rental car agreement if they would otherwise be forced to accept an electric vehicle against their wishes.
