Norway Confidential: A Hurtigruten adventure
In this episode: Sailing from Kirkenes to Bergen on the famous express route. Recorded 8/21/2022
Set sail with us this week for a five-day adventure on the Hurtigruten MS Polarlys, a supply ship that makes frequent stops along Norway’s coast. In this week’s episode, we’ll tell you what it’s like to be north of the Arctic Circle in August.
We have so much to share with you in this episode of the Elliott Confidential Podcast, from life aboard the Polarlys to our impressions of Norway. And we’ll tell you what we thought of those fjords.
Before I get to the pictures, here’s this week’s question: Tell us about your most adventurous cruise. Where did you go and what did you experience? As always, we’ll read your comments in our next podcast.

OK, picture time!
Here are the boys with our ship, the MS Polarlys. The water wasn’t always this flat-calm. But on some days, it was almost like a lake.
The fjords were magical. We’ve never seen anything like them — and we probably never will again. This narrow passageway was about halfway through our journey in Lofoten and we were lucky to have great weather for it.
Our last port was Bergen, a fun town with lots of excellent art museums and the Fløibanen, a train that takes you to the top of the mountain for a spectacular view.
I will write more about our Norway adventure soon.

Norway Confidential: A Hurtigruten adventure
I took 4 Windjammer cruises off the coast of Maine - all on the Lewis R French (no engine. all sails) - the first with 4 of our kids. My husband had polio at age 12 and wore a full leg brace. A lady in the office sent me, in answer to my question of how do you board the French, a 3-page letter detailing every aspect of life on the French, it was a gang plank which he could handle so he went on 2 of the cruises. We had a blast. The only thing that has ever beat that trip with any of the kids was taking the whitewater rafting on the New River Gorge.
I can't WAIT to hear about your cruise! I've never cruised anywhere ( unless BC Ferries count!) because cruising really doesn't interest me...except for Hurtigruten! My daughter lives in Iceland, formerly in Norway and we've had a Hurtigruten trip on our to- do list for ages!
