I am by no means a religious person, but a recent visit to Uluru in central Australia left me stunned by the beauty and serenity of the rock and the area.

You are correct about the US catching up to Brazil in the craziness. I do have to go with St. Peter's Basilica as the most impressive structure although I find it sterile and lacking emotional resonance.

In Cordoba (Spain) the Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba - absolutely stunning interior with a Catholic church inside a former mosque. The mihrab and the maksura are particularly notable. If you visit between 8:30 and 9:30 in the morning, there is no charge for admission.

It was an incredible experience to visit the massive Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi . The mosque is stunning, and even more breathtaking after dark. Also, in Abu Dhabi is the Abrahamic House, one building with a mosque, a temple, and a church to learn and understand the three faiths. It is described as "Diverse in our Faiths. Common in our Humanity, Together in Peace," and truly, isn't that what it is about?

When we travel, we like to visit old churches, chapels, and cemeteries, large and small. But hands-down, the best religious m monument ever has got to be Cristo Redentar (Christ the Redeemer), atop Corcovado right there in Rio de Janeiro. We've been to Rio 14 times and never fail to visit and pay our respects.

St. Peter’s in Rome is amazing. I was there more for the art, but the religious significance is obvious. My husband’s phone somehow starting blasting Layla while we were standing near the altar. (Eric Clapton inference?). I actually felt more awe in Ste. Chapelle in Paris. The stained glass is incredible.

Best church is Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The interior columns look like trees, the windows are alternating colors of stained glass. When the sun comes through, the colored light is awe-inspiring. The exterior is a series of mass carved figures, including a nativity scene. Evens the doors are magnificent.

I like the Cathedral in Seville...the gold motiffs everywhere; intricate decors, and supposedly where Columbus has his burial place also in gold decoration, etc. It's been awhile , can't recall much now!!!

I have been privileged to have seen many spectacular religious monuments all over the world but I think my favorite is La Pieta in Saint peters in Rome. As a mother I can relate to the agony on Mary’s face plus the sculpture is so beautiful

There are 2. For my own religious beliefs, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem is the most impactful, specifically Christ's tomb where the Resurrection took place. I am at the very center of Christianity. For other faiths, the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar, India which is the center of the Sikh faith is the most impressive I've experienced. So beautifully mystical. I was lucky to visit it both in the day and night times and watch the various religious rituals taking place and the devout worshipping. The huge volunteer kitchen that feeds hundreds free of charge was very inspiring. I didn't want to leave.
