Hello from Auckland, New Zealand. We’re thrilled to be back with another podcast, and this week we’re exploring the North Island of New Zealand.

Welcome to the Elliott Confidential podcast. To get the full Elliott Confidential experience, please subscribe to this newsletter.

Here’s this week’s question: Tell us about a time you visited two cities in the same country and had a radically different experience. We’re still trying to come to terms with the contrast between Christchurch and Auckland — and we’d love to hear your stories! Please leave your comment. We’ll talk about your feedback in next week’s podcast, as we always do.

Before we get into this week’s photos, I wanted to let you know that I was having some audio issues with my microphone. It sounds like I’m phoning it in from halfway around the world. I’ll have it fixed for next week, promise!

You can see Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower from everywhere in the city. Parts of Auckland’s central business district are a construction site because they are building a new City Rail underground.

New Zealanders love rugby, so we were excited to see the All Blacks Experience at the Sky Tower. It’s an interactive exhibit that explains the game even to those of us who didn’t grow up playing rugby. Don’t miss the haka, a Māori ritual war dance, at the end.

It was Aren’s 21st birthday this week. Instead of cake, he asked for an almond croissant from his favorite bakery, Tart. Auckland has a lot of really excellent restaurants. There’s an Asian food market every Sunday at the port that we especially love.

Don’t forget this week’s question: Here’s this week’s question: Tell us about a time you visited two cities in the same country and had a radically different experience. We’ll read your answers next week.
